Class Structure
Checkendon School is divided into 4 classes: one each for the Foundation Stage (Reception) and Key Stage 1 and two for Key Stage 2. There are never more than sixteen children in the reception class and never more than thirty children in each of the other classes.
Owlet Class is where our youngest pupils start their time at Checkendon School. Pupils join us when they are ‘rising five’, and enter Owlet Reception Class where they are taught by Mrs Cawthraw and Mrs McClure, with help from Mrs Batchelor and Mrs Peeling. All Reception aged children may start school full time at the beginning of the Autumn Term.
Owl Class is the home of our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Mrs McEvoy teaches of this group of children, assisted by one of our Teaching Assistants.
Panda Class marks the beginning of Key Stage 2, and is where Mrs Leadbeater and Mrs Seymour teach the Year 3 and 4 pupils with the help of one of our Teaching Assistants.
Rhino Class is the home of the older Key Stage 2 pupils. Mr Gayford teaches Year 5 and 6 pupils, assisted by one of our Teaching Assistants.
