History

Originally funded by donations from family and friends, Checkendon School was founded in 1840 by the then Rector, the Reverend William Crabtree. The original Victorian building, adjacent to the church, was enlarged at various times during the 1900s, culminating in our most recent extension, which was completed in 2001.

Early in 2007 we acquired the use of the neighbouring field as a sports pitch. It is also the site of an amphitheatre, children’s garden, living willow structure and adventure play ground.
